Our Banknotes

  • Australia's currency notes are printed by Note Printing Australia.
  • The notes are  printed on polymer substrate, which is a type of film.
  • With the growth of digital printing and technology, counterfeiters can reproduce paper banknotes with little knowledge or experience, and more easily and quickly than ever before.
  • Polymer banknotes are a deterrent to the counterfeiter, as they are much more difficult and time consuming to reproduce. The use of clear windows in the note is also very difficult to reproduce.
  • They are more secure, cleaner and more durable than paper notes.

  Task 1

Use the Reserve Bank of Australia link to complete the tables below. You will need to:

  • Write the names of the people who feature on both the front and back of the note. The $5.00 note is unique because it features The Queen and an important building.
  • Write down the period of time they lived. (The queen, who features on one side of the $5.00 note is a contemporary figure.)
  • Write a very brief biography of each person.
  • If you click on the notes below, it will link you to all the information required.
