Music enjoys a high profile at Woodvale Primary School. It is a very important area of the Arts in which all students participate,  on various levels. Music specialist, Jolanda Speelman, coordinates the school  programme.

Instrumental Programme

In Year 6, students are selected to play a range of instruments including guitar,  flute, clarinet, trumpet and trombone. The selection is done by music and classroom teachers and based on an aptitude test, general attitude and enthusiasm. Children selected for the programme can hire the instruments in Year 6 and then must purchase an instrument in Year 7. Students have a group lesson with an instrumental teacher provided by  the Education Department.
    Classroom Music
All  students (years 1-7) participate in music workshops each week .These involve students in singing, movement, dance, playing and listening activities.
    Choir

There is one combined choir at Woodvale Primary School, comprising of students from year five to year seven. Woodvale has participated in several  music festivals over recent years, with particular emphasis on the annual 'mass choir event' at Winthrop Hall. In November 2009, the choir will participate in the West Coast Song Festival. Members are required to attend two rehearsals each week.
