Teaching & Learning

Woodvale Primary School

Consistent and explicit instruction paired with high-expectations and support is the approach we adopt across all phases of learning.

Teachers incorporate evidence-based approaches to assist students to acquire and retain information including daily retrieval practice and daily reviews in English and Maths.

Across all curriculum areas, teachers incorporate Visible Learning approaches such as a clearly communicated learning intention and success criteria for each lesson. Student understanding is facilitated through explicit explanation, modelling and application, followed by guided practice and independent application.

Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) of teachers, meet weekly to plan collaboratively, set and moderate Common Assessment Tasks (CATs), to analyse student achievement data, review effectiveness of teaching plans and share teaching strategies and expertise.

Students requiring extension are supported through open-ended questioning and strategies shared by the PEAC team (who teach on site), involvement in PEAC or the school STEM extension program.

From 2024, intervention to support Year 3-6 students experiencing difficulty with English is provided through the Macqlit program, and students requiring maths support in Year 3-6 are withdrawn for small-group Bond Blocks instruction provided by trained education assistants.
