Numeracy

Woodvale Primary School

The Kindergarten Guidelines and Western Australian Curriculum guide all numeracy instruction from Kindergarten to Year 6. Students are engaged in numeracy blocks, at least four times a week, which include instruction in mental maths, number, statistics and probability, measurement and geometry, and problem-solving.

Students use a range of hands-on and real-life experiences to develop and apply their mathematical skills and understandings, as well as using their Targeting Maths textbook to practice learned strategies.

Each year, selected students participate in the Australian Mathematics Competition.
