Whole school 'community singing' has also been a feature of school assemblies. Special music assemblies also combine the choral and instrumental groups, allowing students to perform on a regular basis.
In Year 5 students are tested and then selected to play a range of instruments. Those who demonstrate an aptitude and enthusiasm for music receive tuition from IMSS (Instrumental Music School Services) specialist teachers who visit the school to conduct lessons.
Woodvale students can engage in a range of instrumental programs, including guitar, flute, clarinet, trumpet and trombone. Instrument hire is available for year 6 students.
There is one combined choir at the school, comprised of students in years 4-6. Woodvale provides a variety of community and school performance opportunities, such as the Massed Choir Festival, One Big Voice, Timberlane Retirement Village, ANZAC Ceremony, Music Count Us In and Music Assembly. Choir members are required to attend one rehearsal each week.
All students participate in music workshops. These workshops focus on musical elements and ideas such as listening, responding, creating, singing and dance / movement to music. Year 3 students are introduced to the recorder and senior students also engage in various computer-based programs to enrich their musical experience.
